The night was clear so I drove to a small lake in the higher elevations above Heber, UT hoping for a nice reflection shot of the Milky Way. I worked the muddy banks for a while but this old tree had begun to catch my attention. Dicouraged with the mud, cold and my poor progress I decided to frame the tree up against the awesome night sky and it all started coming together. I love the balance of this composition with the strong lines of the old tree reaching skyward, the tall grass in the forground and the distant tree line all working in symbiotic harmony with the lines of the Milky Way. Didn't get my reflection shot ... but that's OK.
